Optics Techniques
Vision :
The Department of Optics Techniques aims to achieve a distinguished scientific standing within the local and global scientific and academic communities, so that it can play an active and influential role in the technical and healthcare fields, thereby meeting the needs of society and the demands of the market.
Mission :
To prepare graduates of the Department of Medical Optometry after they have received an outstanding academic education based on the most advanced university curricula in medical materials science, anatomy of the head and eye, general pharmacology, ophthalmic pharmacology, general pathology, and ophthalmic pathology, refraction, the preparation of prescription glasses and contact lenses, and low vision, among other topics, both theoretically and practically, as well as practical skills gained both on and off campus, in hospitals, and at specialized centers. It utilizes all available resources to achieve excellence in education, research, and patient care, and contributes to patient care throughout Iraq by providing medical services and care in the field of optometry, in accordance with ethical and professional traditions and values.
Aims :
- To develop a highly skilled medical and health technical workforce on par with that found in developed countries, capable of supporting health institutions and the community by meeting their needs for specializations in vision screening, visual acuity assessment, and strabismus correction, to work in eye hospitals and health centers.
- To strengthen the role and effectiveness of technical education in the knowledge society by adopting scientific pathways, systems, and curricula capable of reinforcing the structure of the technical workforce in Iraq at all levels.
- To establish cooperative ties and interaction between this department and its counterparts locally, regionally, and globally.
- Striving to develop students’ scientific skills and broaden their knowledge through the provision of means to achieve the scientific and professional aspirations of the department’s students.
- Providing medical services to patients through various outpatient clinics managed by specialist physicians with the assistance of technical staff who are graduates of the department.
