”Workshop entitled “Scientific Research and Ways to Improve
Under the patronage of the President of Northern Technical University, Prof. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Maqsood Adel Mahmoud, the College of Health and Medical Technologies organized a workshop on Monday, June 30, 2025, entitled “Scientific Research and Ways to Improve.” The workshop was presented by:
1- Assistant Professor Dr. Luay Manna Ibrahim – Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Students
2- Lecturer Dr. Asaad Taha Hamid – Member of the Supreme Council for Scientific Research
The target audience was the faculty members, and the workshop covered several topics:
1- Criteria for selecting the appropriate scientific journal for publication
• Understanding journal classifications (Q1–Q4)
• The difference between predatory journals and peer-reviewed journals
• The importance of the impact factor and other indicators
2- Mechanism for identifying the researcher’s page in the Scopus database
• Creating and updating the researcher’s profile
• Tracking the number of citations and the H-index
• Standardizing the researcher’s name in databases
3- Steps for preparing scientific research for publication
• Determining the research title and formulating the problem
• Writing an effective abstract and a strong scientific introduction
• Organize the content (methodology, results, discussion, conclusions)
• Scientific integrity controls and source documentation
4- Selecting appropriate journals within specific fields
• Matching the journal’s objectives with the research topic
• Using tools such as Elsevier Journal Finder and Springer Journal Suggester
• The importance of reading the journal’s publication guidelines (Guide for Authors)
5- Identifying reliable international publishers
• The difference between publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, and Taylor & Francis
• Evaluating publishers in terms of reach and scientific impact
• Verifying that the journal is included in international databases (such as Scopus and Web of Science)
This workshop aimed to:
1- Raising awareness among researchers of the importance of choosing the appropriate scientific journal in line with the research topic and the requirements of serious academic publishing.
2- Introducing participants to the mechanism for accessing the researcher page in the Scopus database and the importance of updating it to achieve a distinguished academic presence.
3- Enabling researchers to prepare comprehensive scientific research in terms of academic and methodological formulation and commitment to international scientific publication standards.
4- Helping researchers identify peer-reviewed journals related to their specific specializations to avoid predatory journals and ensure the acceptance of research in accredited journals.
5. Increase researchers’ awareness of the role of global publishing and their understanding of the differences between publishers in terms of classification, credibility, and the impact of publishing on their institutions.
6. Promote a culture of sound scientific publishing and advance the reality of academic research in educational and research institutions.
