Sustainable nutrition: integrating health and the environment to achieve sustainable development goals
Under the patronage of Prof. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of Northern Technical University, and under the supervision of assist Prof. Maqsood Adel Mahmoud, Dean of the Faculty, the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division, in collaboration with the Department of Optical Technologies at the Faculty of Health and Medical Technologies, organized a course entitled ( (Integrating Health and the Environment to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals) presented by Assistant Lecturer. Shaima Fadel Wshah in the presence of a number of faculty members. The course focused on raising awareness of the importance of choosing environmentally friendly foods and reducing the carbon footprint resulting from food production. It also reviewed the relationship between sustainable food systems and the achievement of sustainable development goals such as ending hunger and promoting health. Participants learned practical strategies for reducing food waste and adopting methods for purchasing local and seasonal foods. The course encouraged the adoption of responsible food behaviors that promote individual and community health. It also provides participants with the tools they need to plan healthy and sustainable meals in their daily lives. The course concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which are:
- Promoting the consumption of local and seasonal foods to support food security and reduce emissions.
- Reducing food waste through improved planning and home storage.
- Encouraging plant-based diets to reduce the environmental impact of the food system.
- Adopting sustainable food production methods that reduce water and energy consumption.
- Raise environmental and health awareness in educational and community institutions.
- Encourage scientific research in nutrition, the environment, and sustainable development.
- Promote agriculture to reduce dependence on commercial production.
- Reduce consumption of high-emission products and replace them with environmentally friendly options.
